Gerald Friedman, PhD, is a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has been a correspondent on economics for television and other media outlets and a consultant to labor unions. He has drafted funding plans for campaigns for single-payer health insurance in several states and for Physicians for a National Health Plan. He received his PhD in economics from Harvard University.
