The cover of Newsweek, dated 8 March 2010, proclaimed 'Victory at Last: The Emergence of a Democratic Iraq', with a photo of the famous/infamous 'mission accomplished' speech given by George W Bush in May 2003. The magazine went on to argue that while the situation in Iraq is still fragile, the recent parliamentary elections suggest that something resembling democracy might be emerging in the country.
So although the war will soon enter its eight year, and despite the huge costs (human and financial), can we consider the war a success?
