While small businesses may be recovering some of the profits that they lost during the economic downfall. Is the potential passage of the health-care bill actually preventing small businesses from growing their business and hiring new employees? In an op-ed piece in the New York Post on January 11, 2010 Charles Gasparino talks about the CEO of Monroe Muffler, who said his average cost per worker is $35,000 a year, but he isn't going to expand his workforce much more if he has to pay another $8,000 a year in higher taxes, thanks to the new health-care plan. It seems that some small business are unwilling to trust that the health-care bill will not raise their taxes even though Obama has said that under the current plan, small businesses would not be required to cover employees. But those that did would receive a tax credit to help them buy insurance policies through the exchanges.
